What to do?
Yesterday, I scored an AR-15 lower receiver at a very reasonable price. What should I build with it? I’m thinking about doing a 6.8SPC build once Bison Armory gets their barrels up and running.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

These days, I’ve come around to the thinking that I should have two complete (and preferably identically set-up) guns in 5.56 before branching out.

Yeah, but that’s no fun. I can just have one set up and extra parts 😉

How far will you be shooting, and what are ammo prices like in your area? I just ordered a 7.62×39 upper for a lower I built the other day, but the longest nearby range is only 100 yards. If I had the money and wanted to shoot farther, I think I’d very seriously look at 6.5 Grendel.
In the other direction, what about a Spike’s Tactical .22lr upper?

Does the place you ordered your lower from have more? =)

Chris, no. Private transfer but you can hit the equipment exchange at ar15.com. That’s how I found it.

AR-57?
50 rounds of top-feed fun with bottom eject…

The part that intersets me is that you could have sevral uppers for one lower. Or am I missing something?

Quit trying to talk Uncle out of the 6.8, you dopes. The 6.8 is the bomb. It’s still supersonic at 23,443 yards and has less than a half inch bullet drop. It also makes any rifle twice as reliable. And your rifle is guaranteed to appraise for double. Whatever that means.

Ooh, Ben, I dunno … if my rifle doubles, doesn’t that make it an EeeeeeBIL machine gun???!(eleventyone)

I have a fixed-stock A2 type match rifle and a slippy-stocked short Ninja rifle… I don’t have storage for too many dissimilar calibers.

6.5 Grendel. It’s got the same knock down power as the 6.8SPC for CQCB, better penetration vs. armor, and leaves it gloaming in the dirt out past 300 yds. Having said that, 6.5 ammo is pricey, but if you’re interested in a 6.8SPC rifle, you probably aren’t building of a bargain budget AR anyway! Get the Grendel and stock up on reloading supplies for it!

I’m currently building an AR in 6.8. I think its a great round if you want something that can go from hunting to home defense to whatever you need. I’m a reloader and like the bullet selection available. Supposed to be some new bullets being released this year as well…

.450 Bushmaster!
Everybody needs a semi-auto .45-70!
January 28th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
My local M.O.D. has been selling the snot out of .450 Bushmasters over the last little bit. Kinda has me interested in getting an upper, but the 6.8SPC is before it in the list of goodies to get. Now that Cav Arms is back, I have no excuse to not put together a nice plasticky 6.8.
Regards,
Rabbit.

Grendel blah blah. My barrels only cost $175-$185. A 6.8 AR-15 is going to cost way less than a comparable 6.5 Grendel rifle. Our ammo is cheaper too. And I can shoot sub-moa at 200 yards all day. That, and it’s dumb how the Grendel stuff all has to be licensed through Alexander Arms. Thppppt.

That Titan stuff looks cool. They seem to be into the 16″ barrel while I’m going with 18″ and 20″ barrels for now.
