Bacon Explosion
It’s an internet hit. Recipe is here. A few weeks ago, me and my brother in law, J-Lo, decided to have a go at it. Here’s J-Lo getting his bacon weave on (and because I told him I’d put his picture on the internet):

Quite good, I have to say. Even better was the next day when I put a slice on a sandwich with some spicy mustard.
For our next artery clogging trick, we’re probably going to try the Double Bypass Burger.

And Unc gets his bacon on!
[Homer] Bacon. Is there anything it can’t do?

Did you use an oven rather than a smoker? I figured I’d ask since, if it worked for you in an oven, you might give some of us non-smoker owning fools some temp and time tips.

Actually, we got a late start and I did not fire up the smoker. I instead used a gas grill and indirect heat (i.e., the burner was on on one side and the meat was on the other side).
Next time, I’ll use the smoker but that will require an earlier start.

I’m gonna try it! What’s the worse that can happen to me?

Do you know what the basic temperature and time were? I’ve got a grill with 3 different burners so I could do the same thing, but without knowing those two factors, I’d either wind up with bacon dust or a salmonella cake.

Took about 5 hours. Cook until internal temp is 165, like the recipe says. We cooked it on low, which is about 250 – 300 degrees, I’d guess.

Wicked.
I doubt the wife is going to allow me to do this without others being around to eat it with me as she knows I’d pretty much eat a third of it myself for dinner, sneak some for a late night snack, then have the rest the day after for lunch.
What BBQ seasonings / sauce did you use?
February 12th, 2009 at 11:35 am
My homemade rub and J-Lo’s homemade BBQ sauce, which I have the recipe for at home..

That is insanity.

Come on down to Phoenix, we’ll take you there.
Actually, during the 2A blogbash/NRA convention, we really need to organize a trip to the Heart Attack Grille.

Robb Allen just won the internet.

You guys are my hero. Unc for daring to make, and Robb for, well, whatever he does.
