ATF in Iraq
SOF alleges corruption from ATF agents deployed to Iraq. In other news, ATF agents were deployed to Iraq?

Sounds like a plan to me.
They need to be redeployed to Afghanistan. Drop them into a tribal area by chopper, with instructions to disarm the province, and phone for a ride home when done.

Corruption in the BATF? Ya dont say!
“However, if he means holding government officials accountable for their actions, a novel and great idea, it is something that we can all embrace”
It’s not a “novel idea” it’s been kicked around many times already. And I’m sure that the accountability for their actions would apply only to anyone who is NOT a democrap.

I’m guessing they were deployed due to their experience with explosives.

I dunno. My buddy in Iraq spends all day blowing stuff up. the army has a crew for that too.

SOF gave a good overview of the allowable perqs and pay for the overseas assignments described, but never did detailed presentation of how much the 145 agents took of these allowable payments.
Lets assume the whole amount, $4,175,731, was evenly distributed among each agent and that each agent spent exactly 90 days receiving this pay. That works out to about $28,800 per agent, or a bit less than $320 per day per agent, on top of all other allowed pay.
I’d make a wild guess that this payment plan was set up before the first agent boarded a plane, and that it was SOP for all agents. If that is proven, the agents are not at fault for following their HR instructions on how to file for payments; the administrators who set up the payments are at fault.
Be sure the dogs are barking up the right tree.

Sebastian’s ability to think the best of his fellow man would be heartwarming if it were better placed. US and Iraqi troops have carried out weapons confiscations in Iraq. I can’t find any mention of the ATF in connection, but they were doing _something_ in the same time period. I have to think the army has more practical experience with IEDs, and the Iraqis already have a policy toward alcohol.
There’s an NRA youtube video asserting that Canadian police trained at ATF facilities prior to their gun registration being enforced. So this may be speculation on my part, but it’s not unlikely or unprecedented. It must eat those guys up that they can show the rest of the world how it’s done but can’t pull it off here, yet.

What they don’t mention is that the time periods were agreed on between the agents and management before deployment. Getting paid for 16 hrs of work every day they were there was key to getting volunteers to deploy.

what the … heck is BATF and the US Marshall service doing in Iraq anyway? It’s (1) a foreign county not obligated to obey any US laws and (2) it’s a combat zone. Were they there making sure our troops didn’t “improperly possess” an automatic weapon? Perhaps making sure unit armorers filled out 4473 forms, and that soldiers paid the hidden tax transfer fee when issued their weapons? Or maybe helping set up a free, democratic form of government, minus, of course, that pesky Second Amendment right of free men to bear arms.
