Wine in grocery stores
A push for that in Tennessee. Actually, I’d like to see bourbon in them too. Fewer stops.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

New York is considering this too. There is some objection that it will make liquor stores less profitable. I wouldn’t mind the (minor) convenience of wine in grocery stores, but I’d be quite unhappy if any of my local liquor stores went under.

In Nebraska everything is sold in grocery stores. I’m so used to living here now that when I come home I forget that I can’t get Scotch in the grocer.

TRADER JOE’S!
Anyhow, I know its a horrid liberal rag full of sissified frou-frou food, but check out Gourmet’s defense of industrial produced bourbon (rickhouse Kentucky style) in this month’s edition. I think they are right on this one. Small batch is a relative term and bourbon is one of those things that you do not want to have a different taste from year to year (or bottle to bottle!) like wine.

The only restriction on beer and wine that I’m aware of in NC (other than in dry counties like the one I live in) is that you can’t buy the stuff before noon. Apparently the Christians got tired of having all the good stuff bought up by us heathens while they were in church.
On the flip side, it never ceases to amaze me how bent out of shape some of my fellow damn-Yankees can get over the modest restrictions we have. I mean, does anyone really “need” to buy booze on a Sunday morning? Imagine if the only gun laws we dealt with were a rule that you be 21 to purchase, you can’t buy any gun on Sunday morning, and guns with a capacity over 20 rounds could only be purchased in gun stores?
