Quote of the Day
In the movie American Gangster, Detective Richie Roberts:
Judges, lawyers, cops, politicians. They stop bringing dope into this country, about a hundred thousand people are gonna be out of a job.

So let’s start handing out the pink slips. When corruption loses its profits, it generally stops.

That’s one reason why there is so much resistance to legalization. There’s the money, sure, and lots of it, but there are also the excuses for more power. Forfeiture laws, search and seizure laws– those are very popular among our rulers.
We now find our 2A rights further threatened, with drug trafficking gang activity on the southern border as the excuse.
You might suggest that they legalize it and then tax the shot out fo it, but that would deprive them of these wonderful excuses. No; this is way too profitable the way it is.

I can fathom a rather less sinister reason why it persists: when something’s spent any amount of time being illegal, the ‘white people’ (to borrow a term and force it to serve my own selfish ends, evil laugh) tend to imagine quite a chaotic scenario if you suggest the law be repealed. I’ve noticed, or thought I’ve noticed, a sort of taken-for-granted assumption that written laws are all that’s stopping 2/3rds of their neighbors from burning, pillaging, and letting their lawns get overgrown.

Well, that is certainly true about the neighbor to my left; the one on the other side seems ok, although he gets a pillaging look in his eyes every once in a while.

The War on (Some) Drugs is an unholy alliance between the worst portions of our society: criminals, politicians (but I repeat myself), crooked judges, crooked lawyers and police chiefs.
They all get too much money and power from the status quo for legalization to happen, ever.
