Gun trouble
Trouble with the S&W M&P pistols from the LA Sheriff’s department.
The M&P is on California’s list of safe guns.

Figures. The one I ordered for carry purposes just showed up at my FFL today…

Aero, I’d bet it’s more likely an ammo issue. YMMV.

One can only hope. The broken barrel report is what worries me. The other issues listed can be dealt with relatively easily…

Best guess is it’s either 1) an ammo issue, or S&W had some chambers/extractors that were out of spec. Guns are mechanical things and they break sometimes. The hojillion rounds fired through the M&P pistols in IPSC/IDPA shooting tends to make me not worry so much about this.

I bought mine (9mmCompact) last November. It was new manufacture. While I haven’t had 10,000 rounds through it, I’ve had no problems whatsoever and that is with practice, carry +P and handloads.
I really think there is more to this report than meets the eye.

My first question to ask is:
“What did LA County do to the M&P to make it crap out this way?”
I think these are just random defects from the many, many pistols that have been made. I would say though that S&W needs to go through do some serious quality control checks.

It seems like left coast police departments tend to have problems with firearms.
I wonder if it has to do with the lack of familiarity with firearms, or some sort of weird gun karma?
