Respecting the office
I’ll start respecting the office when those who hold it start respecting it and the constitution. Until then, they’re all rightfully subject to scorn and derision.
We just had a big media to-do about one politico calling another one a liar. And the story was about how rude that was. Not whether or not the president was lying or not.

You don’t need to respect the office. Neither do I. We can do or say whatever the fuck we want, no matter how disrespectful. And I have, many times.
But I do expect our elected officials to act with a bit more decorum than I do. Because if everyone running this country just starts acting like children, screaming at each other and calling each other names, it’s not going to benefit any of us. That’s not how adults accomplish things effectively.

If everyone running the country starts spending all their time calling each other names and screaming at each other, they can’t spend more of my damned money. I’m all for it.

Respect is earned not automaticly given no matter who you are or what position one holds. So far Obozo and his cronies hav’nt earned any respect.

I want to see fist-fights in the House and Senate, a cage-match. I want to see yelling and screaming and pulling hair and bitch-slapping each other. It’s a circus when they don’t read the freakin’ bills, are not subject to the same laws they pass for others (like hearlthcare) and have no accountability – they might as well provide some entertainment.

“Respect is earned”
Nah. I think Disrespect is earned. Respect should be freely given until someone gives you a reason to diss them.

You can choose to respect or not respect Congress or anything you want..its a free country. However, if you are testifying in front of Congress (as the author of the piece you linked to apparently was) then it might be in your best interest to respect the institution that you are testifying in front of…you just might find the Congress-criters a little more receptive to your point of view.
Same goes for Joe Wilson..if you are a politician already, the least you can do is have some respect for the institution. And I remember several stories pointing out the obvious..that it was Joe Wilson who was lying not the President.
