Happy birthday to the M9
The American Rifleman has an article on it. I note that this article is in the same issue in which Ugo Gussalli Beretta wrote a letter to the magazine expressing his displeasure that his gun was not included in the top guns list.

Uncanny, that coincidence.

As Glenn Reynolds would say, “Heh.” I noticed that letter in the issue last night.
“Dear Signor Beretta
“We did not include your pistola in the list of the Top Ten Guns because it does not belong there. Not only is it not particularly innovative or historical, it is an oversized clunker that even American Cowboy gunnutz have difficulty shooting well.
“Perhaps if the troops Italia sent off to make a show of supporting the War on Terror had actually done more than sit around securing their base, they could have gotten some practical input on the subject from our forces.”
Was that last bit over the top?

I read the letter on the train yesterday … hadn’t noticed who wrote it 🙂

I noticed the same thing as I was reading the magazine last night. It got a bit of a chuckle.

Yes, but get a subscription to Small Arms Review. THAT will really drive them over the edge.

Ergonomics of a red-clay brick, and it was supposed to be SMALLER than a 1911?
WTF was the Army smoking back then?

I think everyone noted the kiss ass, keep the ad revenue flowing article to assuage Beretta. Why not? NRA has been kissing ass so long what’s one more?

I’ve owned many Glocks, Sigs, Smith&Wessons (wheelguns as well as slabsides), Colts (ditto both kinds), Brownings, Rugers (both kinds), Springfield Armorys, AMTs, Randals, H&Rs, various Commblock autos, odd ones like Savage and Remingtons, even a Raven(!), but I’ve never owned a Beretta 9mm.
I’m sorry but the grip is way to thick for a 9mm, and the gun is way to big for a 9mm. It was a poor design. So I’m not shocked it didn’t make the top 10. We would have done much better with either a 1911 in 9mm (say a commander), or a P-35!

I have two 92’s and I am very satisfied with them. I have fired a couple of M&P’s and my full size Beretta has similar firing characteristics. I carry a Sigpro 40 on the job and it is no more difficult to shoot or hit the target with my 92 than it is with the Sig. I have a co-worker who wants to buy my model L compact but I told him no. You can have the most expensive gun, the newest toy, and it means nothing if you don’t practice on a regular basis and develop the skills and tactics necessary to protect yourself.
