Bleg: Video Cameras
Looking for a small, lightweight video camera that can dump videos on the netbook pretty quick. Decent battery life. And charges fast. There’s a FlipUltra that gets decent reviews at Amazon. Anyone use one or have another suggestion?

I just got the Kodak Zi8. 1080p video, removable sd memory card, easy usb interface with computer, HDMI cable to interface with your HD TV.
My research says the Kodak beats the Flip

I have a FlipUltra. While it’s alright for my purposes, I strongly suggest the Flip MinoHD instead.

there is also the Kodak Zi6. Older model but you can get it for $90 shipped here:

I have one and am happy with the 720p video it captures. Not very good for indoors, but small and easy to use.

Have a 120 min Flip Ultra, works well, small enough to be highly portable. Sound capture is good but limited – doesn’t do well at distance. I’d like to have a little more zoom in both directions – one more X smaller and larger would be great. I hear the Kodak version is a little better, higher definition, as is the Flip Ultra HD, but IIRC they have only 60 minutes of video, which is probably plenty for this type of device.
FYI, get a 1 meter USB A/Male-to-A/Female cable to go with it. Eventually you’ll find a USB port you want to connect to that you can’t because the flip-out USB connector on the Flip isn’t long enough to allow connecting without the body of the Flip interfering. For me it turned out to be the USB port on my Samsung flat screen.

Been considering the Kodak Zi8 for the wife. Upgradeable SD card to 32gb, dumps through a USB port on the device. 10 hours of recording time w/ added SD card. Good video in HD. I’ve heard the native mike is so-so. Can use external microphone. Can be found for around $150 or so.
Regards,
Rabbit.

Rich got me the Flip MinoHD for Christmas last year. Love it! I took some video, then we hooked it up to the 60″ HDTV … the picture was sharp and perfect. I have several videos uploaded at my YouTube account (same user name wherever I go) if you want to take a look – the New Year’s First Night Knox, one of my cat, some from our honeymoon – a variety of nighttime, indoor and daytime shots. You’re welcome to take it for a test drive, if you want.

Take your Droid. Install Qik. set up Quik. Start recording video and streaming directly to the internet, with recording and playback as well.

I have the flip, overall not super impressed. Like a previous commenter, the zoom is weak. For close up it works well enough. It is cheap, and it shows.

I also have the Kodak Zi8, came to the same conclusion and I love it. Easy to use, easy to offload the video, good battery life and vid quality.

I saw that Kodak has come out with a new model that is water proof down to 10 feet. That would give a lot of peace of mind when filming at the pool , lake or beach – or in the rain. Amazon had it for about 150
