Though the internet is big, it really is a small world

As a matter of policy, I often link things and try (sometimes) to leave names out of the posts. Reason is that the one time I made a smart ass remark about someone dying because they did something stupid, one of their family members googled the deceased’s name. And found me. And they had some choice words. And, well, who wants to go through that? And I mean both them and me. I mean, imagine googling someone you care about and finding me saying that they were so stupid they couldn’t find their own ass with two hands and an ass map. Your objectivity about the stupidity of their actions is tainted. And I’m just some guy on the internet.

I do not remove names for criminals.

I’ve also gone back and removed names when people email me and say they found my post after they googled their names only to find me pointing out a bit of embarrassment or some such. I tend to oblige those requests too. After all, if you’re job searching, you don’t want them to find you saying something stupid on the internet.

Today, I got one from a Brit who was not breaking the law nor doing anything stupid and who I actually complimented. Out of country, they decided to shoot some guns. And the pics were causing some negative press at home. And it’s England and they pee their panties at the thought of guns.

I obliged as well.

    Geeze.

By the way…when you say criminals, do you mean ones who were found guilty in a court of law or were just arrested?

  2. SayUncle Says:

    my own judgement.

Was that our friend from the Rendezvous? How sad what has become of my grandfather’s country…

  4. Robert Says:

It is indeed sad. But, it’s also the case that the USA says that if you break USA law outside of the USA, even in a place where it’s not a violation of local laws, then you are guilty and can be charged in the US. As the group of gentlemen at the SHOT show found out. Best not to aid stupid people in their quest.

Uh, D.C. and environs are still technically part of the USA, I’m pretty sure.

  6. Robert Says:

Tam: Perhaps my example was not the best, but it still hold true that you can be arrested for violating US law while outside of the country, even if local law does not cover it. Typically it’s used against “sex tourists” that have sex with what would be underage persons in the US, and others of the same ilk, but the law could be used in other situations if they wanted to.

not our friend from the rendezvous.

One thing to keep in mind, nonimmigrant aliens need to be really careful about obtaining a hunting license before posessing weapons in the US.

If you assume that we are living under a repressive regime, or that foreigners are living under a repressive regime, the correct action is obvious – never name names, never show faces (unless blurred), always allow people plausible deniability.

There are too many gun haters in HR departments all over this country who would love to purge their companies of any taint of self defense. They only need to have a target to start looking for an excuse to fire those who disagree with them.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
