I wonder what optics were on that thing. I bet that the optics would have bumped up the 800 dollar price tag bit. I would have been the owner of a brand new, hardly fired AR upper with optics if I found it.
What’s REALLY interesting is that they say the officer might face “disciplinary action” for losing it – but he lost it a MONTH ago, and nothing has happened yet. If it hadn’t turned up in criminal hands and made the papers would he have been punished at all?
I’m with Kristoper. What are the genuine odds that a rifle that fell off the top of a car would wind up in the hands of a drug dealer? I citizen, I suppose, could have picked it up and kept it, although I would not keep a firearm that I found on the street. Ditched firearms run a distinct likelihood of having been ditched after a crime, and I certainly would not want to be tied to a felony I didn’t commit because of a gun I found on the street. Likely a law abiding citizen would have called the cops, meaning they would have gotten the rifle back. So the gun would have had to have been found by a criminal, or someone who associates with criminals, to have made it into that drug bust. Nope, my money is on Occam’s Razor and he sold that thing to a druggie.

My first thought on reading this was “If i found an AR on the ground, stripped lowers aren’t that expensive”.

Is the same rifle? Cause when he drove of with it on the roof of his car, it was a patrol rifle they found a assault rifle.

Policeman “losing” an AR-15 = unproven sale of police AR-15 to criminal
IMO, of course ( and possibly the FBI’s as well ).
