NRA convention and carry
This year’s convention is held at a place that doesn’t allow concealed carry. This has happened before. IIRC, Louisville was the first one that allowed it. It’s because of the venue and not NRA policy. Curt says he won’t go because of it. Sebastian says it’s an issue but there are other considerations NRA has to factor in to its choice of venue.
I’m going. Already got a room.
ETA: Some doubt as to whether Louisville was the first and I cannot find where I read that. So, maybe not.

Really? The first? I don’t recall any flap in Pittsburgh. I’m not aware of anything in the law, I never saw any signs, and the only time it was obvious there would be an issue was during Dick Cheney’s speech since he was VP at the time, so you had to deal with Secret Service. Granted, I stopped in New Jersey on the way there, so I never planned to take a gun, and maybe that’s why I don’t remember any issues about carry.
As I recall, St. Louis tried to put up a few signs, but they didn’t come anywhere near meeting the legal requirements of Missouri, so their ban didn’t really count.

I seem to recall reading that somewhere. That and McCain’s visit was cause for the press to poop itself. I was trying to google it up now to confirm with no luck but this post is already the third result.

Missouri law also doesn’t provide any penalties for violating a no carry zone.

Actually, in St. Louis a member got up during the Annual Meeting (the actual reason everyone is there, and which is part of the Bylaws) and bitched that security turned him around when they noticed he was carrying.

Well I’d love to know where you found it because I really don’t recall it being an issue in Pittsburgh. We don’t have any state laws to contend with, there’s nothing local thanks to preemption, and I entered the convention center by way of the connected walkway from the hotel and through one of the main entrances and don’t recall seeing anything posted. Granted, it’s been a few years, but I think that would have stood out.
Houston is the only one I don’t know about because it’s the only one I’ve missed since I started going.

You could be right. Still looking.

I just found a forum of people out in Pittsburgh who say they carry there all the time and it’s not posted. So if there was a ban in Pittsburgh, that would be news since it would have been overturned at some point.
But considering the NRA meeting was the first big convention there (and proved the city doesn’t handle conventions well), that would have been a pretty stupid move for them to temporarily post only to take it down after NRA left.
