From Rossi

Rossi‘s making some Mare’s Legs:

From 2010 NRA Annual Meeting

I want one of those with a rail on top. A Mare’s Leg in in .30-30 decked out with an Aimpoint would make a fine house gun.

I met you, and you didn’t seem crazy.

  2. ericire12 Says:

I would prefer a pistol caliber (Maybe .357) and a longer barrel

  3. Wes S. Says:

Make mine a .357 or .44 Special, and I’ll be good to go.

…Any information on price and availability? Rossi doesn’t have them up on their website yet.

Provided you only need to fire like 2-3 shots. In pistol calibers Mare’s Legs are generally six-shooters. In rifle calibers they’d be significantly less than that. No thanks. If I’m going to get that little capacity, I’ll go for a Shotgun that shoots lots of bullets with each trigger pull.

  5. nk Says:

Aw, fer crying out loud. What a waste of a wonderful gun and a pretty decent cartridge.

  6. nk Says:

Just go and get yourself a Charter in .32 H&R. You could probably get one for $100.00 from some cop who took it off a punk and never inventoried it. You might have to come to Chicago though. 😉

  7. Dave Says:

Owners of that type of lever gun can correct me if my assumptions are wrong, as I have only owned full sized Marlin lever actions, but they seem highly impractical. I’d make the fairly safe assumption it is less accurate than a rifle, and without being able to plant the stock in your shoulder while you work the lever, I’d expect a lower practical rate of fire too.
Less accuracy + lower rate of fire + lower magazine capacity + Steve McQueen used one on TV = it is the cowboy action version of semi-auto SMG clones( a fun yet ungainly pistol)

If my first impressions are way off base, let me know.

    That’s very apt, I think.

  9. SayUncle Says:

They’re totally impractical and the house gun bit was a joke. I just think they look sexy.

  10. nk Says:

Woody Strode wore one in the opening scene of “Once Upon A Time In The West”. Had a “Rifleman” screw attached to the trigger guard, too, so the rifle would fire as soon as the lever was closed. But I thought Claudia Cardinale was much sexier.

    Video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQNhQgD4gmQ Violins, no sax.

  12. Stretch Says:

For those of us who grew up watching the great TV westerns of the ’50 and early ’60 this is a Good Thing.
And one of the leather companies is making a holster rig for it just as Steve McQueen wore in Wanted: Dead or Alive.
Yes, I spent far too much time in front of the TV in my impressionable youth.

  13. aczarnowski Says:

I’ll grant that women who carry mare’s legs are sexy…

  14. Oakenheart Says:

    I agree with aczarnowski 🙂

  15. Jerry Says:

Ok, that’s a #$%^& that I didn’t need. But, thanks anyway aczarnowski. As to the mare’s leg, I say 16 1/4″ bbl, full size stock, lose the ‘Rifleman’ loop and get a realistic one, 45acp w/200g Speers, and yes, cool house gun. Yeah, I know.

  16. Bob in Houston Says:

Hey Unc, sounds like what you want is the old Wild West Guns “Bushwhacker” I don’t think they make it anymore but you never know.

  17. nk Says:

I thought the idea of lever action pistols died sometime in 1855 with the Volcanic. Folks kind of liked revolvers that you could shoot with one hand. Now, if I was Steve McQueen and had a writer and director and stuntman to stage my fights for me ….

  18. Stretch Says:

Oh my! Look what a search for “mare’s leg” turned up.
    A cut down Lightening.

All the coolness of Steve McQueen but easier to work than the lever action.
If it fits the holster … now were did I leave that lottery ticket?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
