Sad day on the iPod
My little girl’s growing up.
In the car, I have an iPod that feeds the stereo system. I keep a couple of playlists of kids’ songs for when they’re in the car. This weekend was kinda depressing. Junior was telling me which of her new songs she wanted in the car and that she didn’t want some of the old songs anymore.
I replaced Animaniacs, Jack’s Big Music Show, and They Might Be Giants with Justin Bieber, Hannah Montana, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
*sigh*

My son has loved Johnny Cash and Elvis from day one. So far, he’s shown no inclination to deviate into teeny bop crap like your daughter has.

I blame her gymnastics class. I imagine Johnny Cash is hard to do back handsprings to.

*nods*
TheBoy loves Green Day, of all things.
BabyGirl G. is also into Hannah Montana.
Alas, gone are the days when I would pick them up from daycare and they’d headbang to AC/DC…
(Although they are both into Iron Maiden, so it’s not all bad…)

I can understand moving on from TMBG’s “Here come the ABC’s” and similar kids albums. But there is no replacement for Flood or Lincoln.
My boy is all over the map – which is great. He listens to Jack Johnson, Celtic Woman, or Indigo Girls at night. But he wakes up to Iron Maiden, Metallica, or Rise Against. He can also sing every word to any johnny Cash song and most Social D.

My 10yr old loves Ted Nugent, Zeppelin, Lynrd Skynrd, and anything by the Pyrates Royale. Now THAT group has some booty shaking music…..

Who the hell is this Bieber person? And I won’t even let my wife listen to Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga in the car.

If it were me, I’d go back and delete the songs by Trollop Gaga.
As role models go, she’s just about equal with Pelosi.

Good God, man! Get the kid some Mozart!

+1 Skullz. Iron Maiden has been in my rotation quite a bit lately.

Well I hope you at least keep TMBG on there for yourself if nothing else, or at least the less kid specific songs (although they are fun every now and then.)

I’m sorry to hear that. I’d hate to think that the new music the kids will listen to in order to piss off their parents will just be shitty music π

The more I listen to modern rock, the more I listen to country. The more I listen to modern country, the more I listen to bluegrass and blues.

Cargo, I like the old country better, from the early fifties. And Mozart, of course. It seems Uncle has no class and no culture. Kids, these days!

Just wait Unc it is gonna get worse before it gets better… At least my kids don’t ask to go see those bands in person.

The nephew headbangs to AC/DC and Skynyrd but also listens to Pee Diddy. This is actually an improvement over his parental units, who have been known to put Garth Brooks, Madonna, and Pat Boone in the same playlist. I still have hope for the boy’s development.

Mine made the transition not that long ago. Competative cheer was our culprit. Wiggles to Ga-Ga. Although she had me load Cindy Lauper on her ipod the other day,

You’re a better man than I am Uncle. If I wanted to listen to my music in the car growing up, I had to use headphones. A shift to things like Lady Gaga would be a sign to me that it’s time to get them some headphones of their own.
Or just make them learn to love SRV and Hendrix, as all people should. π
