Couple of folks arrested after open carrying. They were charged with obstruction of justice for not showing ID.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse, unless of course you are a cop.

Is there a requirement to show ID in Wisconsin?
In my state one only has to show ID (or tell your name, rank and serial number) if stopped for an infraction or ordinance violation.

Wisconsin only requires you to provide ID if you are operating a vehicle.
I’ve got a copy of the press release from Wisconsin Carry Inc. up over at my place for those interested.
When I’ve got some time later I’ll be poking around the OC forum and seeing where things are and updating things.

In my state you must show your CWP when asked for ID by a cop (which is usually only during a traffic stop)… We here are more then happy to produce said CWP during traffic stops because around here cops have a tendency to send you on your way without a ticket if you are a CWP holder. My buddy whipped his out once when he was not even carrying and was able to get off without a ticket (he was going 50 in a 35) 😉

There’s no permit for carrying in Wisconsin. If you can legally own a pistol, you can OC (aside from a handful of arbitrary locations) and there was no need for these officers to request ID’s from the OCers.
There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll win this one, it’s just a matter of what else results from it. (I’m hoping for another memo from Van Hollen if nothing else, as there’s already case law that covers this.)

It is worth remembering: the law is what the policeman says, and he might shoot you if you disagree with him. Nor is it safe to take it to court. Even if you win, the lawyer will take all your money.

Since when has my ability to carry without police discrimination had anything to do with money ellen???? Do you think these guys care how much money they are going to make? They care about the freedoms that they are promised not being infringed.

Ellen’s right, just roll over and take it, your rights aren’t worth it… (Sarcasm if you missed it)
Since the lawyers are already working on it WCI, and have already won the same case in Racine, WI for one of the same individuals, I think it’s well worth the time and effort.

“already won the same case in Racine, WI for one of the same individuals”
[sarcasm]Well, there ya go. That proves that they set up the poor hard-working Madison po-leece officers. One of ’em has done this before.[/sarcasm]
What scares me is that SO many civilians (& police) don’t understand that the problem here is the police acting illegally, in direct opposition to a WI Supreme Ct. ruling as well as the WI AG memo.
