Quote of the Day
Flame suit on
From the Robar custom piece linked earlier:
With the Glock platform pistol set to surpass the M1911 as the most prevalent pistol in circulation, it is only natural that an entire aftermarket and custom industry surrounds the design.

The Glock probably passed the M1911 fifteen years ago, Unc. Where you been?
Most of the 1911 makers today, such as Kimber and all the Filipino slag gun brands, didn’t even exist when I started working in the gun biz back in ’93…

Yeah, but even gun writers are admitting it 🙂

Custom?
I just don’t see the Glock as a customizable pistol. I’m not a Glock owner, I have shot them and enjoy them, great guns I just don’t see what all you can tweak.
– Grips – 1911, four screws. Glock, molded in how do you change them, maybe the backstrap on Gen4’s?
– Sights – Actually easier on the Glock since its a standard size.
– Controls – 1911, safeties, slide release, trigger all drop in or file-fit parts. Glock, uhhm I guess you could replace the slide release and the trigger but it seems like a more involved process.
– Springs – Wear parts, replaceable anyway.

there are tons of after market products, including steel frames.
November 17th, 2010 at 11:36 am
Glocks are more of a weapon if I lack a good all steel weapon. Of course the all steel is only the last resort after the rifle has run out of ammunition. And the butt stock as well as bayonet have been broken…. Yes I find pistols to be a rather unsatisfactory close range weapons but as with all situations of desperation you must take what you can get….

Fit and function for an individual’s hands I can see, maybe working on the internals and putting on Tritium sights, but there isn’t much there to beautify. A fine weapon that has the intrinsic charm of a shovel. But if one likes a good shovel to dig with…. as a crusty old friend says, it is what it is.

GM Built a lot more Chevettes than it did Corvettes…

and a lot more pickup trucks than sports cars.

They were admitting it 17 years ago.
Srsly, I just don’t get this whole “persecuted minority Glock owner” thing…
November 17th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
Persecuted? Hardly.

Sadly I do have more Glocks than 1911s.
And I know in the LEO field the Glocks have pretty much taken over the field.

Glocks are like Facebook, AOL, or Twitter – you don’t have to do it.

More Honda Accords get stolen than any other car model because more Accords are on the streets than any other model. There is apparently something that drives Accord sales other than “most stolen car.”
More people die of 22LR bullet wounds than many other calibers, because there are so many more 22LR pistols and rifles out here than any other caliber. There are reasons to own a 22LR other than “most lethal caliber,” at least in my opinion.
Yet Honda Accords are not for everyone, and Glock does not make a 22LR pistol for US sale, and the point of owning either one is that it starts out “perfect” and needs no tweaks, upgrades, appliances, or custom touches to work as intended.
I’d still like a flashlight for my Glock 19, though. I got the Gen 3 with the rail for just that possibility.

If the Sainted John Moses Browning (PBUH) were still building pistols on earth, he’d be making Glocks..but with a better grip angle.
Seriously. He used the state of the art materials, techniques, etc for his time. So is Gaston Glock.

Here is one (one of many) site for ya to see what all there is:

Uh, no.
Gaston Glock is using state of the art materials and techniques, etc. circa 1980. The state of the art has moved on some in the last thirty years, but he resists change with the stubbornness of a six-year-old at mealtime. “Perfection”, don’t’cha know.

Get back with me in a hundred years

There is no effective advantage of the glock over the 1911. Over 100 years and counting of active military service, and with a better trigger. Firearms trainers are teaching that proper trigger squeeze is the most important technique for accurate handgun hits.
