criminals want to know there is something in the house worth getting, mostly its all drug related, the media sensationalizes things for ratings/readers/etc.
Yes, the random invasions done by psychos that we see in the movies and on crime shows are very rare, but that does not mean that they dont happen. As far as I am concerned the cops are really doing the public an injustice by just blowing off that these things dont happen to good people who live good lives. Yes, you dont want to cause histeria, but still.
*I would also bet that the cops dont classify rape cases as home invasions because the motive was breaking into the house to rape the woman inside.
Actually, 20% “random” home invasion robberies is a higher percentage than I thought. Thanks for posting about this article. There are so many home invasion robberies now that I will remain on guard against being in that 20%. I had hoped that 98% were drug-related. Having said that, my work puts me in a position to peer into the world of prescription drug addicts. I believe that prescription pills are driving the crime wave, disability claims, workers’ compensation claims, and the accompanying general culture going to Hell in a hand-basket.
I’ll add this: pill-heads may mix up the house number, the street name, or just simply show up thinking they are at the right place. You’re at 160 and they are looking for 106. Their supplier is at Maple Drive and you’re at Maple Street. I don’t trust them to always know the difference.
