New Ruger
LC9. 9mm version of the Kel-Tec P3AT err LCP, I guess. Looks to be substantially larger. Another small 9mm.
Update: Stats and specs here.
Update 2: Ouch.

Of course it’s larger. The P3AT is is .380 and the LC9 is 9mm. A better comparison is the G26.

I see no reason that the LC9 shouldn’t be only 2mm longer, since the ammo is only 2mm longer. ðŸ™

That’s a great looking PF9. How long until Ruger offers the RFB?
January 3rd, 2011 at 3:09 pm
yeah. then i’d want one.

VI: .380ACP has a SAAMI pressure spec of 21,500psi. 9mm specs at 35,000psi.
Any questions? 🙂
As to the gun itself: color me unimpressed. It’s a PM9 with extra doohickeys (safety, magazine disconnect, chamber indicator) that weighs more. Whee.

Stop correcting my delusional misguided opinion with your concrete facts! STOP I SAY! *puts fingers in ear* La la la la.

Hopefully Ruger will do the right thing and buy the cow after taking that much free milk over the years. A real Ruger manufacturing and KelTec R&D partnership would be more fun to watch.
January 3rd, 2011 at 3:45 pm
It will be a start to address some of KelTec’s problems getting stuff out the door.

Or you could get a PF9 for about $150 less

BTW – here is an overlay with the LC9 and an LCP:

Not pocketable, unless you dress in gangsta baggys, and even then you’ll need some support anyway @ 1.5# loaded. If it’s not pocketable, it has to be carried in some sort of holster belted to the owner, and if you’re gonna carry a gun THAT way, carry a more serious gunfighting gun. You can buy decent police-turn-in Glocks for that kinda scratch.
Just sayin’.

Big +1
I think you are right on the mark… unless its a 9×19 that is the same size and weight as those micro .380s then the only big thing here is that it is a single stack 9×19. Great, if thats your thing but nothing really new…… but I bet they will still win “gun of the year” for this one.

Had me until I saw it has a manual safety.

If Ruger sold an RFB, it’d do two things: 1) work and 2) actually be available. Make all the jokes about knocking off Kel-Tec that you want, at least Ruger gets their products to market.
January 3rd, 2011 at 8:15 pm
And then, recalls them.
January 3rd, 2011 at 8:27 pm
Touche. Although the Ruger recall jokes (based on two recalls, one for the SR9 and one for the LCP) are getting a little stale.
January 3rd, 2011 at 8:32 pm
Quick! Call Massad Ayoob. He’ll hit them with a hammer. Look, I appreciate Ruger helping the guys who specialize in NASA parts get their product to market faster. But testing and quality mean a lot for something that might save your life. I love their 10/22. But it has failed me. Fun to shoot but not something I will rely on.

The problem with that analogy is that at a certain point if I throw out every gun I’ve seen fail, I’m at zero guns. Glocks are out, Ruger semi-autos would be out, S&W revolvers and M&Ps would be out, and I’m stuck carrying a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 Magnum.
January 3rd, 2011 at 9:03 pm
Caleb, you dance with who you brung. Practice fast-draw with the Blackhawk, and especially fanning that hammer.
January 3rd, 2011 at 9:15 pm
My ruger has failed a bit more than zero. My two glocks have failed exactly never. And my Sigs failed once, with an after market mag. Guns will fail. Not many are recalled due to inconsistency of failure.

RFB’s aren’t exactly the paragon of reliability. Hard to see how Ruger a) could have made it worse, while b) delivering less of them.
Manufacturing a rifle were you need to outsource the barrels, and selecting a twist rate for 168 grainers instead of the cheap 150? C’mon son. That’s a small company bunging up the design because they don’t have the capabilities to pull of what needs to be done; i.e. different barrel twists for the CQB carbine versus the longer barreled ones. Wait, where are the longer barreled ones? Keltec’s now put 3 more designs in pipeline before they’ve delivered the first consumer Sportster or Target RFB, that they ostensibly chose that setup barrel for. Huh?
I’m a Keltec fan, but I’m with Caleb (with that endorsement and a nickel, you’ve got a nickel). They need big-time manufacturing support. And Ruger, if nothing else, can crank out product. It’s not magic. Manufacture it to spec and if the design was built to run, the gun runs.
January 3rd, 2011 at 10:29 pm
…ostensibly chose that barrel setup for…
Not the only typo, just the most embarrassing.

I carry a Kel Tec P11 – with 10 rounds of 9mm (err, I guess 11 since ones in the pipe) pretty much whenever I’m not in DC. It fits in my front pocket, in a front pocket holster. U wear it with jeans, shorts, cords, and suits. No impact and no sag.
I have a desanti pocket holster.
I don’t see how this would be any different – except that it wouldnt be carried since it was recalled. Oh, and it costs $300 more.

Size: My XD9 subcompact is 6″ long by 4.75″ tall by 1.25″ wide. If I leave my property it’s in my front pants pocket or on the passenger seat under a towel, with 10+1 115 grain JHP. Sometimes I put a long magazine (15 rounds) in the glove box.
Range: When I take it to the range I usually fire about a hundred rounds each through it and it’s big brother (XD9 “Tactical” full size). In over 3 years, failure to feed = 0 and other malfs = 0. Now, why would I want to change to anything else?

If all P11s shoot like Countertop’s I might have to buy one. The first one I shot I didn’t like, but when I shot his it was freakishly accurate.
