ATF needs positive press
More on their internal PR memo from CBS. Or you could have not been negligent.

There’s enough spin going on to power a city if you can hook it up to a generator.

Just wait for the PR fueled raid on somebody.

Last time they tried to garner “positive press” we got Waco.

Just as an aside. Is this a horrible, horrible thing and should everyone of the jackholes involved be canned? Absolutely. However I would like to point out that the comments/stories saying that because the ATF failed to do their job and allowed these guns to walk they directly led to murders is inaccurate and hyperbolic. The gun didn’t commit or facilitate the crime, and the ATF doing or not doing their job would likely have zero impact on the murder rate in THIS country, much less in Mexico.

@GD
Agreed, if the cartels didn’t get these guns from the US, they would have gotten them elsewhere. What’s interesting is how they kept saying how the gun stores and gun shows are fueling their supply, only for us to find that they were at least in part responsible for causing it to happen. It reeks of them trying to justify their budget or gain more power.
We obviously shouldn’t make it any easier for the cartels to get weaponry, but if these claims are true it proves that they’ve been dishonest about the role the US has played in Mexico’s problems. I feel bad for the gun stores that went along with this too, what’ll happen when and if the press goes after them, when it was the ATF’s fault?

I dont feel bad for them. Anyone who cooperates with the ATF gets what he deserves. You can make the rattlesnake a pet, but it’s best to keep the anti-venom close by.

“positive press” from the ATF usually involves burning down a church.
