late to the party, uncle. 🙂 i’m rocking a b&n nook color, running cyanogenmod. it overclocks from 800 Mhz to 1.1Ghz pretty well. hard to beat the feature set for the price, as well.
I’m still doing blog posts in crayola crayon. (And drawing the picture of a trigger guard in a broken piece of “Outer Space”, which in my day was simply called dark grey, was a bitch.)
I feel pretty good about it as a tablet. the android user experience isn’t as smooth as iOS yet, but it’s not terrible. and it’s not apple’s walled garden, if that matters to you. If you’re willing to root it and install a more complete ROM, I think it holds up really well to most of the other 7″ tablets on the market. CM7RC4 is pretty impressive on it; I’ve not had any trouble with my unit, and it’s much quicker than the stock eclair build that ships on the unit.
I picked up a Pandigital Novel this fall and ended up getting my girlfriend and my dad Velocity Micro Cruzes for Christmas. The biggest issue with them is that they use resistive instead of capacitive touchscreens. My dad is cursed when it comes to electronics, and his recently died. He took his back and upgraded to the new model, since the old one is no more. Big difference between the two? about 50 bucks and a capacitive screen.
The low end android tablets are usable as long as you don’t expect them to be iPads. Sure, my iPad kicks my Novel’s ass, but the iPad was $800 while the Novel was $100.

These posts that the android is doing are very uninspiring. We want Uncle back! Down with Androids! Save the Human!

Which Android tablet did you get? The market’s in a little too much flux for me to dive into one now.

I got the viewsonic. Initial impression is it’s pretty sweet but the proprietary software sucks. Will figure out how to do a standard android install.

Does the Nook color make a good tablet? I’ve read about rooting them, but since you can’t really try it out on a store model, I’m kind of leery.

We have a roted nook color… I’m reasonably certain my wife would give up food before she gave up the nook.

Keep us informed of your experience with the tablet. It’s an option that I (and I am sure other bloggers as well) are considering.

I need to update my stuff.

I have one too but I mostly use it as an eReader. It’s actually easier to use my Android phone (with its slide-out keyboard) than my tablet.
Guess I’m keyboard addicted.

The Sci-Fi geek in me wants one. Maybe in a bit when the price comes down.
