AARP and guns

They seem to advocate treating guns as a public health problem. And seem to endorse legislation:

There are a variety of ways of dealing with the problems caused by guns in society, and legislation is one of the methods most commonly used. Franklin Zimring has noted that laws that regulate gun use fall into three categories: those that limit the place and the manner of firearm use, those that keep guns out of the hands of high-risk users, and those that ban high risk firearms. Place and manner legislation sets out to do as it suggests, to limit certain uses of firearms in certain locations. Examples include banning the use of firearms in public places and prohibiting the carrying of a firearm (except for those carried by security personnel and police). This legislation is difficult to implement, however, without the active support of the police force, and that support requires additional funding to make sure that police monitor potentially violent events.

So much for gray dawn.

I bet this is a tit-for-tat with the Administration related to that whole health care thing.

That’s why when they send out their Membership Cards, I throw them in the trash. Funny how they know when you turn 50, and they start hitting your mailbox the day after, isn’t it? Not saying that someone in the Gooberment is allowing them access to your Private Data, but…..it is nice to know the AARP has decided to become Anti-Gunners. Now I wonder if they asked their Gun Owning Members to support the Brady’s? In fact, I wonder how much money the AARP gives to Anti-Gun Groups w/o their members consent? Somebody tell Joe Huffman. Time to do some Pro-Gun Outing, I think.

There *is* a choice: dump AARP and go AMAC: http://www.amac.us/

AMAC’s stance on the Second Amendment: “We believe that the Second Amendment, which states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”, is an integral part of our freedom.

AMAC supports the Constitution of the United States of America and our Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment. Exercising the right to keep and bear arms demands the utmost responsibility, but we believe the Second Amendment guarantees our inalienable right to keep and bear arms.”

Stuff like this is why I refuse to have anything to do with AARP.

AARP has had an anti-gun (pretty much an anti-anything but big Nanny) agenda since dirt was new.

Tilting at content farm windmills again I see.

Its licensed content designed for SEO. I doubt anyone from AARP has ever read it, let alone wrote it. Read the footer.

When I check into a motel in a rural or otherwise pro-self defense area and it has a AARP sign,I tell the clerk about AARP’s position and suggest that the motel is supporting an anti-rights organization. Good fun and I have actually beaten the AARP discount on some occasions.

I just turned 53, and have yet to receive their junk mail. Guess seven years living aboard a 30′ sloop really knackered their database, eh?

Should the day come that their “invitation” hits my mailbox, the postage paid evenlope will be returned with my courteous reply, hand-engraged with a sharp awl, upon a 5 lb. strip of roofing lead.

They can’t cry postal nuisance, as my reply really will be on the lead. But, it’ll surely cost’em some extra in the mailroom. And, I’ll photodocument the whole thing, right up to mailing.

And no, I bear no malice towards ’em, really. I just want my message to carry more weight than the average.

I joined AARP for a year, but quit post haste after reading their liberal drivel in their publications.

Many police support an armed populace. I just completed a concealed carry class taught by the chief of police of a nearby town. He’s a very enthusiastic member of the NRA.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
