Because my Father fought in the Hungarian Revolution, escaped to America, married my Mother and made sure I learned at an early age (8 or 9) to shoot “Just in Case” on her Family’s farm (with help from my Uncle’s and Cousins). Our Training Weapon was an old .22 LR Lever Gun (Winchester, maybe?) that one of my Uncle’s owned. No real formal Target Shooting, but a lot of Plinking whenever we could get down to the Farm. I’ve taken it from there.

My response: “Because it beats being a slave.”

She asked how did you become a gun nut, not why. -1 for reading comprehension.

The answer is the same.

I begged and begged and begged my Dad to let me shoot the rifle and he did. I was five.

Because the anti-gunners are the actual nuts, I’m normal.

Because firearms are the direct product of the human mind to overcome our lack of fangs and claws.
We never ask an eagle why they need so many talons, or a shark why they need so many teeth, nor do we ever wonder if they know how to use them.

HL,
Excellent. I may be quoting you soon.

I am not a “gun nut” anymore than I am a car nut, hammer nut, coat hanger nut, etc.. for any tool.
As HL says above, more or less, a gun is just a tool created to overcome man’s short comings in inherent defensive and offensive equipment.

I blame shotgun news.

In their own vernacular, I did not chose to become a gun nut; I was born this way. It’s not a choice.

What? No long version?
It’s been really cool to read everyone’s story. Thanks for linking and playing along.
