So…the tweet could be considered, at least, partially accurate…just get rid of the “perverted” and hey..truth in advertising, not a slur.

Sodomite being hate speech? Well, it’s a term that’ll piss me off just fine, and in the right situation popping a retention strap in anticipation of things going pear-shaped right fast.
Sorta like “faggot”, “nigger”, “wop”, and “kike” – charming terms of endearment that the target might consider a hint of impending violence.
Now, I don’t know if Barney did it with gerbils or in one of the more vanilla modes…but in the end, since (thank god) he didn’t ever make a pass at me, that doesn’t matter. I’d suggest perversion is a semantically meaningless term @ this point.
“Flaming liberal gun-hating hoplophobic semi-socialist wrinkled lisping bag of aging suet” on the other hand…seems a bit more on point.
If you’ve not picked up yet, while I’m willing to acknowledge Frank’s position as the first openly gay member of Congress – I’m not an enthusiastic supporter and have considered him an embarrassment and net negative for both the nation and the community for years.
As far as the scandal w/ Barney’s one-time partner doubling as a rent-boy and drug-dealer? Hate to say, but seems fair to can the naughty and (unless you can prove knowledge or participation) leave Barney alone.
If we want, after all, a system that plays fair with us…we need a system that also plays fair with those we don’t much like.
Yes, I do celebrate Barney’s long overdue retirement. And, I find the tweet in question both offensive…and were someone to rush up and share such sentiment with me in person…I’m afraid my safety considerations would be seriously notched up as I considered whether I was dealing with an immediately violent hostile.
