What the hell kind of uncivilized barbarians would arrest a woman for merely carrying her pistol? And why would anyone want to go to such an awful place?

Disgraceful!! She went to the cop to ask a fair question. Do you have a lock up for my gun? He lies and says follow me and we will hook you up. He handcuffs her instead! I hate NY and New Jersey so much!
I only go there IF I have to for work, and I try to get them to come to PA. (Then I take my guests shooting!)

Off duty NYC cops are also not allowed to carry at the memorial. Funny, first time I went there off duty I had my gun but nobody minded. Then again at the time the place was a mess.

The Gun is illegal under NYC Law. But I’m sure the Obama Administration will do its best to force Bloomberg to Obey “D.C vs. Heller” and “McDonald vs. Chicago” with the same zeal as they are pursuing the South Carolina Voter Registration I.D. Law.

You have to know when you leave free America and realize that sometimes that is simply entering a park.
Plus, never, ever, mention your gun to a police officer unless he approaches you and you are required to notify by law. They never react well to such information.

She should’ve realized that she was in a slave state and that no good deed goes unpunished! She should’ve simply used the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

Self-incrimination?
Isnt there something about a confession being
no good if Maranda warning has not been given?

I’m from New York State and I got the Red Curtain of Blood hearing this one.
I’m tired of hearing about out of state concealed carriers being treated this way – your permit should be good in my state, period!

TennGoodBoy,
All our rights are may be trampled upon when the government is violating the 2nd one…especially in a slave state like NY:
“The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave. He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself and what he possesses else he lives precariously, and at discretion.” –James Burgh, (1714-1775) British politician, back before their descent into tyranny and barbarism

@ Tenn: only if it is in response to questioning, but this was a spontaneous confession. She is screwed and her life as a non-criminal is over.

Given that our government used 9/11 as an excuse to create some of the most power-grabbing, freedom-crushing laws our country has ever seen (I could be exaggerating a little, but not much), it seems fitting that someone would be arrested for exercising a constitutional right at its memorial.

Yeah, that sucks and everything, but HANDGUNS ARE ILLEGAL IN NYC. I always assume everyone knows this—at least all gun owners—but I suppose some people still aren’t aware of that. I don’t fault the cops at all—what would you suggest they do? They did their job.
As far as “lying” to her, they obviously did that to get her to a less heavily traveled area—they don’t know who they’re dealing with, they just know the person is armed—so if they are going to try to disarm and arrest her, they’re not going to do it where there are hundreds of bystanders.
However, the DA actually prosecuting her is completely fucked up—it’s obvious she didn’t realize she was breaking the law, and was trying to comply with what she thought the law was. Hopefully everything works out in her favor.

I agree, it was ignorant. But it’s still an interesting case to have a med student violate the gun laws that are atrocious.
