Bleg: Holster

A reader emails: I have a request: I’ve been searching for a duty holster and a concealed holster (IWB, etc) for my Ruger P944dc. No luck locally or on the web. Help?

My quick look turned up nothing. Anyone?

If you don’t mind spending a buck and a quarter on a really nice leather holster with a lifetime guarantee, call up Gary (http://brommelandgunleather.com/) and he can likely set you up. He always have 1911 hoslters on hand, but if he doesn’t have it, he is happy to order factory plastic gun blanks to get one done.

(I’m not in any way associated with Gary or his business other than being a happy customer)

Stonerholsters.com will make anything usually under $100 and they have great cstomer service

  4. SayUncle Says:

Do you make them for the Ruger P944dc?

  5. Jennifer Says:

If he can get a dummy gun, definitely. I’ll get Michael to comment.

Thinking outside of the box here, but is Dear Reader sentimentally attached to the Ruger? If not, they could easily sell it for $250ish and invest a few Hamiltons on a gently used Glock 19. Lighter, more reliable, and easily holstered in anything.

First thing that pops into my head is try the Fobus holster for the p85/p89 It might fit. I have their GP 100 holster which works with my Security Six.

(Yes I know Fobus is cheap crap)

    Ok Just found this:

Besides the rail, how is the P944dc different than the P95? From what I can see at a precursory look, the former would work well in an holster made for the latter but not the other way around. (I can get a dummy gun for the one but not the other.) Would you give your reader my contact info?

  9. MSJ Says:

OK just to be clear… Does the P944dc not fit in a P94 Holster?

e-mail Rudy @ black hills leather. He seems to be able to do just about anything:

I carry mine in the Fobus P94 holster that MSJ listed. (actually in the roto paddle variant) Have for almost 3 years on a daily basis. It’s survived 2 attempted grabs (one by a cop) and never gives me an issue. Whoever told you fobus are crap doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

My guy at JM Holsters (www.jmholsters.com) is going to be making me a new paddle this May (when I can afford to be without my gun for a while for the fit / wrap) but might be able to be convinced to get a blue gun if someone else is interested in the Ruger.

@Adam: For some reason I can hit anything with my ruger and cant hit the broad side of the proverbial barn with a glock. grip width and angle are perfect for me. Maybe your reader is in a similar boat.

    Regards,
    Pol

^ Could very well be. I’m the opposite – I can’t shoot most Taurus pistols well, as they feel awkward in the hand. Then again, I’m a 1911 snob.

Appreciate all the suggestions. Thanks, guys! I’m clicking through all the links and I’m sure I’ll find a good option.

@Adam: What Pol said. Love my Ruger, tried a couple Glocks and was unimpressed.

@Pol: JM is who the gun shop I patronize suggested, I think. I’ll shoot him an email.

    Thanks again, Uncle.

I have a Ruger P94 in 9mm. I also have a Ruger P97 in 45. I ordered a Bianchi Paddle for the P94, #59 special agent – tan leather, from Opticsplanet.com, after using the holster finder on the Bianchi website ( http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/SearchModel.php ). As this was not a common holster I had to wait 6 weeks while the Bianchi Company ginned one up for me. I got it a few weeks ago and it is VERY nice. Adjustable for height, cant, and cross draw. I have carried both of the Rugers in the same holster and both ride well and presentation is very easy and natural but the .45 is just a tad tight. After looking through the catalog at the Ruger site I would say there is very little difference in the outside dimensions of any of the P94s or the later models with the shortened barrels. If you are heart set on a P944 holster, check out this site – http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=ruger+P944+holster.
Hope this helps, I seem to be late to the party.

  15. Steve in TN Says:

    @William: Still collecting links. Thanks.

PS: Wife found two holsters I *thought* I had but were “stored” up in a drawer in the back room. Isn’t that how it always works? Used one for a gun course I took Saturday.

Thanks again, guys. The gun community has always been the best.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
