Make me a sammich
Just ordered a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich. Interesting that I go to the local Verizon store where I’ve gone for years. Turns out, the girl I’ve bought my last couple of phones from is no longer there. The new guy offers me a sale price of $299, which I though was high. The sales guy tried to talk me out of the Galaxy for a Razr Maxx. And then it was implied that because I was going to 4G, I would have to switch data plans from my grandfathered unlimited plan.
Anyway, I went to Verizon’s website and managed to get the same phone for $50 less and kept my existing plan. As a loyal customer, they even knocked my monthly fee down a little for loyalty.
Weird.

Not weird at all. The guy at the local Verizon probably gets a higher commission on selling the Motorola than the Samsung which also explains why you paid $50 less when you went online.

Not weird at all. A lot of these phone store people are greedy, unhelpful and ignorant. I laundered my crackberry and the neighborhood Verizon wanted from $200.00 to $600.00 for a new phone plus a two-year extension of my plan. I went to another Verizon and said that as a longtime customer I am entitled to one for free. They said we can’t do it but Best Buy can. Best Buy was half a mile away. They could and did. Still Verizon, free phone, and new plan $30.00 cheaper.

You should have bought it through the amazon link you posted above.
Amazon as of right now shows it for $229 with a contract extension.

BS, I moved into 4G and was grandfathered into my unlimited data. He was lying to you.

Yeah, you got a turd salesman. I went in bitching about my slow ass Droid 1, and why wasn’t the Droid 4 out yet. He showed me the Galaxy Nexus and the Razor Maxx. He researched my plan, got me an employer discount, and cut me a deal (both loyalty and employer!) on the phone and the accessories.
Plus I like the Galaxy Nexus. Still wish I had a sliding keyboard, but oh, well. I’ve adapted and he got his commission. Plus, after his customer service, who else will get my business? Loyalty goes both ways.

Isn’t that’s what retail sales is all about? Don’t ask me, I never worked retail…

It gave me $249 as well. Must depend on length of time or some such.

I don’t go to the Verizon store anymore. Best Buy has all the plans and a motivated sales base. I got my last two phones for free. I still have Verizon service, but I don’t have to deal with the unmotivated sales staff.

Not weird, not when you factor in commission and possibly stupidity.

I think it’s wonderful, the way these devices have simplified our lives, saved us money, and relieved stress. It’s Tom Swift’s world; we’re just leasing a plan in it.

When are you going to root it?

A Ruger SR-22 with a 4 inch. In THIS/OUR state, a 4″ tube is the norm, if you need to hunt with it. Yeah, I know, Tam and Bobbie are hot also.

BTW, the Ruger getting it right thing was my point.

Phone rants should be censored!
