Suppressors legal for hunting in AZ and TX. This trend has been spreading through states like wildfire, thanks to the NRA. But remember, the NRA hates NFA weapons, right?

Your headline is wrong, that is about Arizona, not Texas. Not fair, you had my hopes up despite my knowledge that the Texas legislature is not in session. 🙂

Eagle, you’re incorrect. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved suppressors for hunting yesterday morning.

I’m glad that we got some pro-hunting bills through this session, but those were the only ones the NRA supported. They left us out in the desert on campus carry and required storage at government buildings.

I’m told that Wisconsin also allows suppressor use for hunting; or, more accurately, it’s not illegal to use suppressors while hunting there.

Don’t be so quick to exonerate the NRA on the NFA issue. This only affects hunters and has nothing to do with the NFA.
I’ll revise my opinion when I see the NRA lobbying to have suppressors removed from the NFA entirely.

Alan,
NRA has worked to expand the use of suppressors for hunting, though the regulatory process in TX and in state legislatures such as AZ, GA, IN, and OK this year. Last year they worked on similar efforts in MT and KS This helps get more gun owners using suppressors which ultimately will help build a bigger constituency who can support future legilsative efforts on NFA issues. There are only about 25-30k suppressors sold annually and I’ll wager that many of those are sold to people who already own one or more cans. The NFA community is still a relatively small one and supporting the use of suppressors for hunting is a great way to expand their ownership and use.
