I loathe the TSA a good bit more than the next guy, but you’ve managed to find the one incident this year where they did nothing wrong. The girl’s in more trouble having parents who don’t give a shit than hearing from a stranger who does. “Slut shaming”, forsooth. God forbid a fifteen year old girl should hear a single solitary dissenting opinion about what a great idea it is to be a slut. Ohhh, the horror!
I’ve known some girls who really wish they’d heard that from their parents. Hearing it from some random TSA agent would have made no difference, obviously. But it wouldn’t have done any harm, either.
This is a nothing. If he’d groped her, throw him in jail. If he made a salacious comment, discipline him. But exhibiting reasonable concern for a young person is not a crime. It’s what used to be called civilization.
i’m going to agree with rickn8or – the TSA agent shouldn’t have said a word. he’s not the clothing police. she looks like she’s dressed perfectly normally to me. nothing’s hanging out, she’s not wearing too-short shorts or skirt, and she’s wearing a cover garment ON TOP of the tank.
frankly, she’s overdressed compared to the majority of her peers.
The pic makes it fairly obvious that she’s got enough covered, but I disagree with the reaction to “slut shaming”. I’m old enough to remember when sluts WERE ashamed, and still think that our syphilization would be better if they STILL were. Good on Alejandro Drosophilia for pointing that out.
Officer PedoGrope McFeely is NOT the Fashion Police.
“. . . the officer was “glaring” at her and mumbling. She said, “Excuse me?” and he said, “You’re only 15, COVER YOURSELF!” in a hostile tone. She said she was shaken up by his abusive manner.”
She’s wearing leggings, a tank top, and a big baggy long sleeved shirt that is long enough it could be a dress and covers he tank top to the point where you can barely telll she’s wearing a tank top instead of a t-shirt. There is maybe an inch of midriff exposed.
While the agent may well disapprove of what she’s wearing, this snappy comment would have been inappropriate on a street corner, much less coming from the mouth of a government agent who can decide to have the girl strip searched if she chooses.
Anyone who thinks this is how “sluts” dress missed their true calling about 600 years ago.
@Alejandro – What pray tell makes this outfit slutty??
That fact that you can see her face & neck or that 3/4″ of belly?
I think her parents did a good job and the TSA agent can go do something unnatural to himself.
“Slut-shaming” is common place term in gender studies, especially, but also in wider sociology academics. Slut shaming is defined as the act of making a woman feel guilty or inferior for engaging in certain sexual behaviors that deviate from traditional or orthodox gender expectations, dressing in sexually provocative ways, or even for being a victim of sexual assault: “She was ASKING for it! Did you see the way see way dressed?”
not that i have an opinion about whether or not she looks like a slut or not but i have seen leggings like that before and was quite surprised at how sheer they were when a coworker bent over and i realised the the coworker was without undergarments

I very seriously doubt that Dress Code Enforcement is part of that TSA officer’s job description.

How long would the TSA officer kept his job if he’d said “Pull up those sagging pants?”

The more skin the merrier, I always say.

Frank: “sluts” are only “shameful” to people who have no business knowing or caring about what’s going on in their bedroom.

TSA worries the Muslims on board might get upset and say “Allahu Akbar” and everyone on board kills them.
See it’s to preserve the peace!

Did Unc just refer to a 15 year old as a “slut”? Let me read it again…
Yep. Yep, he did.

No. I referred to the practice of belittling women based on dress commonly known by its derogatory term.

I don’t see that word used anywhere in the article…which, if you’ll note, is about a CHILD, not a woman.
I understand your point here, Chance, but please – words mean things.

And thank you, Ish. Wikipedia works for me, too.
