My Dirty Magazine Collection – 2
In a follow up to My Dirty Magazine Collection, The Mrs. emails:
By my count:
Sig 229: 5 magazines (2 too many)
Glock 30: 3 magazines (just right)
AR-15: 12 magazines (9 too many)
AK: 4 magazines (1 too many)
Ruger 10/22: 4 magazines (1 too many)
Walther P22: 2 magazines (may need 1 more)
AR 9mm: 4 (for which I get bonus gun geek points for owning magazines to a gun I don’t even have) (4 too many)
Total: 34, if I did my math right. (By my math, that is 16 too many)
I told her me and junior were off to count shoes, purses and scrapbooking stuff! I’ll, of course, use this as a reason to justify buying another Walther mag.
Update: 3 per gun, eh? I just need more guns!

At least, FOUR per gun! Loaded mag, spare loaded mag, and two empty spares relaxing mag springs. And that’s only for carry/defense guns.

I realize that but the wife doesn’t 😉

It seems pretty clear to me that you just need more type and numbers of various guns.
Heck, you ONLY have 6 types of guns represented. What about a Ruger Mark II? WHere are the 1911 mags? Extra cylinders for your .38 Spl, .357 Mag, 45 ACP/45 Colt, and 44 Mag revolvers? Do you not have an G3 mags??
Seems like the Mrs doesn’t have any idea how lucky she is.

Ya know, with age, comes wisdom, like not picking a fight with a pregnant woman. Just a thought.

I feel like a freakish gun nut compared to you, uncle. I like to have 10 mags per gun in storage for a rainy day, and 10 mags for general use (I use tape or baseplates to differentiate) per gun. That means that I need 40 mags for my two AR-15s to feel happy. 🙂 If you only get three and one breaks, you’re down to only one spare! The humanity!!!

Tell your wife that the basic load (a thus what any good member of the unorganized militia should have) for an AR-15/M-16 is 7 mags. And I know a lot of infantry guys who won’t leave the FOB with less than 10.
Hell, tell her that my wife has 16 mags for her AR. (I’ve only got 8 for my AK.)

My standard is to always have 6 mags per pistol (one in gun and two in mag holder for carry and a replacement set for all) and I tent to end up with twice that many. High cap rifles I usually try for a minimum of 10-15 mags but have gone well over that for most (my one AK simple looks bitchin’ with waffle mags and HAD to have them.)
You wife’s opinion seems predicated on the assumption that these items are easily and quickly replaceable…which, in general, they are – except at the very moment you need them replaced!

Hmmm. Let’s see…
M1 carbine: 16
AO1911: 14 (okay, I was off by four when I said I had more in 1911 and M1 carbine. My bad).
SW99 .40 S&W: 6
SW99 9mm: 3
Makarov 380: 4
Browning BDA-380: 4
Hi-Standard: 2
Marlin 989: 2
Colt Jr.:1
Remington .410 boltie: 1
Rom-AK: 1
Total: 54 magazines. And, as I said, I’m a wheelgun man at heart…

Just keep buying them a few at a time. Once you get to a certain point, she will stop counting and it will just be “all those magazines”. This comes from the famous writer, Patrick McManus, but he applied the concept to guns. It works.

34 total magazines?
I just counted 36 1911 magazines! 😉

Tam, it’s a good thing you like cats, because otherwise you *would* be the perfect woman… 🙂
