More on Steven Tyler
Seems an Aerosmith fan board linked to where I met Steven Tyler. It was odd at Reno to see Tyler. First, the TSA guy asks me if I’m a fan of Steven Tyler. I said From Aerosmith? He said Yeah, he’s standing right there. And he was. He was standing their putting his clothes on after the TSA searched him. And, in hindsight, I really take issue with the TSA guy pointing that out. I mean, seems Tyler is entitled to some sort of privacy. And at least the privacy involved in TSA folks not pointing him out to random people going through security. People were asking him for pics and stuff while he was still trying to get his stuff together. Kinda lame.
And, hats off to Tyler. He smiled and took photos with anyone who’d ask. And was a nice guy. I didn’t ask for a photo because I figured he was tired of it.
And, by the way, Tyler is about five feet tall and weighs about 90 pounds soaking wet with his pockets full of quarters.

Yeah, but is he a fellow gun nut?

Shows how nonsensical TSA and DHS policy really can be. Does anybody really think a rock star is going to be the guy carrying explosives or sharp objects?

I wish you would blog a little about going through security. I’d like to hear how it went with all the firearms and ammo.

It was a breeze. Just check your firearms. nothing really to report.

Ted Nugent wrote in “God, Guns and Rock and Roll” that he introduced Tyler to shooting and he became a big Class III fan.

Well, we over heard Tyler comment that they didn’t search him like that when he was checking his pistol.

I thought it was long known that Tyler and several guys in Aerosmith were gun nuts. Is that only known in Massachusetts? If so, well consider it spread. Obviously, I can’t say I’ve seen Tyler’s collection, but I heard it for years in the MA gun community.

Many years ago, while I was working security in St. Louis I had the honor of being the security officer assigned to guard Aerosmith’s tour buses in St. Louis, Mo. All I will say is that Mr. tyler and his bandmates were very polite, and when they found out I was out of diet coke they had a roadie bring me a 6 pack of cold Diet coke 🙂

My brother worked for Aerosmith for a while and I seem to recall him commenting that at the time, it was one of the cleanest and best tours he’d ever worked on.

Bitter: there is a MA gun community?
